International Food Relief Partnership (IFRP)

USAID's Office of Food for Peace (FFP) works with partner organizations to reduce food insecurity in development and emergency situations around the globe. The International Food Relief Partnership (IFRP) program from USAID’s Office of Food for Peace (FFP) first included Nutributter^® in 2010 as part of a three-year distribution grant amounting to more than 300 MT per year being distributed by various implementing organizations. With the IFRP program, thousands of children in many different countries are receiving Nutributter through a variety of programming contexts.

The information below is designed to address questions for potential and current distribution partners through USAID’S IFRP distribution grant. It relates specifically to the commodity Nutributter^® and its integration into nutritional programming.

Nutributter^® is a complementary food supplement that has been tailored to the nutritional needs of infants and young children (6 to 24 months old). It is a peanut and milk-based paste that has essential fatty acids and appropriate levels of vitamins & minerals to promote growth, motor development and aid in the prevention of undernutrition in young children. Nutributter^® is a supplement that can be used during the complementary feeding period for children who are at a higher risk of becoming undernourished because their usual diet of foods, in combination with breast milk, are not meeting their nutrient requirements. Nutributter^® is not meant to replace breastfeeding or a varied diet of local foods. Children receiving Nutributter^® should continue to breastfeed and receive the usual local foods. If traditional foods are inappropriate or inadequate in nutrients for complementary feeding, additional nutrition interventions targeted at improving feeding behaviors and food choices should be considered in addition to supplementation with Nutributter^®.
