Plumpy’Nut^® was the first ready-to-use food (RUF).  This nutritional peanut-based paste was invented in 1996 by André Briend, of the French Research Institute for Development (IRD), and Michel Lescanne, of Nutriset.  Since that time, Plumpy’Nut has changed the face of treatment of severe acute malnutrition. In just 4-10 weeks the success rate for recovering is over 90 percent.  Plumpy’nut ensures that children receive all the essential requirements their bodies need and allows them to gain more than a pound a week.

In the last decade, Nutriset has developed a full range of Plumpy products that are designed to reach children in different stages of malnutrition. The products are revolutionary because they do not require any preparation and carry a two year shelf life, making them ideal for use in emergency settings or in remote parts of the developing world.  Edesia currently makes four of these products: Plumpy’Nut^®, Plumpy'Sup^®, Plumpy’Doz^®, and Nutributter^®.
