FOCUS ON THE SAHEL and the horn of africa
"The crisis areas in the Sahel and Horn of Africa regions, cannot be overlooked by the world - millions of children are in desperate need our immediate attention. A vulnerable mother and her child living in a fragile society need our continuous support and caring." Heidi Reed – Communications Manager, Edesia
Due to poor rains and poor harvests, a humanitarian crisis is unfolding in the Sahel region of Africa. UNICEF estimates that more than 4 million children under the age of five are in desperate need of treatment for severe and moderate levels of acute malnutrition. Plumpy’Nut is the most effective solution, endorsed by the World Health Programme, to treat these dangerous conditions that are putting one too many children’s lives and futures at risk.
Our humanitarian partners, such as UNICEF and the World Food Programme, cannot effectively responds to the scale of this crisis without robust supplies of Plumpy’Nut. With just one sachet of this nutrient-rich peanut paste, a severely malnourished child’s body can begin the hopeful process of rebuilding. To a mother in the Sahel, this looks renewal looks like a happy smiling baby in her arms, and a miracle.
The Horn of Africa, which experienced such an extreme famine last summer, is not out of danger yet, which is why we continue to send supplies so that medical staff in these hard-hit areas can treat the most vulnerable children suffering from severe acute malnutrition. The children in this region continue to need the nutritional support that Plumpy'Nut provides.
When you support Edesia*, you are helping us deliver even more supplies of Plumpy’Nut to where they are needed most in the Sahel and the Horn of Africa. Every donated dollar takes Edesia one step closer to providing the necessary nutritional solutions that will literally change the course of a child's life.
